Ingredients

  • 1 large bag 14 oz thick-cut tortilla chips
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet or prepare a cast iron skillet.
  2. Cook ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart until fully browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add taco seasoning and water to the beef. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened.
  4. Arrange tortilla chips in an even layer on the baking sheet.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cheeses over the chips, then add half of the beef mixture.
  6. Add another light layer of chips, followed by remaining beef and cheese.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from oven and top with tomatoes, red onion, jalapeños, sour cream, guacamole, and cilantro.
  9. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

Use thick-cut tortilla chips to prevent sogginess. Add fresh toppings after baking to keep the nachos crisp.
