Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter over low heat and remove from heat before fully melted; stir to finish melting.
  3. Stir granulated and brown sugars into the melted butter until glossy; let cool for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
  5. In another bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  7. Add chocolate chips or nuts if desired and spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Cool brownies on a wire rack for 15–20 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

For fudgy brownies, avoid overmixing and slightly underbake. Use Dutch-processed cocoa for deeper chocolate flavor. Cool completely before cutting for clean edges.
