- Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a 10x15-inch baking sheet with parchment or foil. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until melted, then boil for exactly 3 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Pour caramel mixture evenly over crackers, spreading quickly. Bake for 5–7 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let sit 2–3 minutes to melt, then spread evenly with a spatula. Add desired toppings.
- Cool completely in refrigerator (15 minutes) or freezer (10 minutes) until hardened. Break into pieces and serve or store.
Notes
