Homemade Saltwater Taffy Rolls

Ingredients
  

  • 400 g granulated sugar
  • 240 ml corn syrup
  • 120 ml water
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp flavoring (vanilla, peppermint, or your favorite)
  • 1 packet Food coloring (optional)
  • 1 tsp Butter or cooking spray (for greasing)

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • Candy thermometer
  • Marble or countertop for cooling

Method
 

  1. Grease your marble or countertop with a little butter or cooking spray.
  2. Combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt in a large saucepan.
  3. Heat the saucepan over medium heat and allow it to boil without stirring.
  4. Monitor the temperature with a candy thermometer and remove from heat at 260°F (hard ball stage).
  5. Pour the hot mixture onto your greased countertop.
  6. Allow the candy to cool for a few minutes until it is comfortable to touch.
  7. Grease your hands with butter, then begin to knead the taffy, pulling and folding.
  8. Add flavoring and food coloring as desired, continuing to knead.
  9. Shape the taffy into ropes and cut into small pieces.
  10. Wrap each piece in wax paper or parchment for storage.

Notes

Store the taffy in a cool, dry place to keep it fresh. You can experiment with different flavors and colors for a fun twist!
