Method
- Grease your marble or countertop with a little butter or cooking spray.
- Combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt in a large saucepan.
- Heat the saucepan over medium heat and allow it to boil without stirring.
- Monitor the temperature with a candy thermometer and remove from heat at 260°F (hard ball stage).
- Pour the hot mixture onto your greased countertop.
- Allow the candy to cool for a few minutes until it is comfortable to touch.
- Grease your hands with butter, then begin to knead the taffy, pulling and folding.
- Add flavoring and food coloring as desired, continuing to knead.
- Shape the taffy into ropes and cut into small pieces.
- Wrap each piece in wax paper or parchment for storage.
Notes
Store the taffy in a cool, dry place to keep it fresh. You can experiment with different flavors and colors for a fun twist!
