Ingredients

  • 3 small oranges or tangelos sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • Granulated sugar for rolling optional
  • Melted chocolate for dipping optional
  • Flaky sea salt for sprinkling optional

Method

  1. Slice oranges evenly into 1/4-inch rounds.
  2. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and heat until sugar dissolves and mixture gently boils.
  3. Reduce heat to a simmer and add orange slices in a single layer.
  4. Simmer for 60 minutes, flipping slices every 15 minutes, until translucent.
  5. Remove slices and place on a wire rack over a baking sheet.
  6. Allow to air-dry at room temperature for 48 hours, flipping once halfway.
  7. Optionally roll dried slices in sugar, dip in melted chocolate, or sprinkle with sea salt.
  8. Let coatings set before storing or serving.

Notes

Use evenly sliced oranges for consistent texture and allow full drying time to prevent stickiness or spoilage.
