Ingredients
  

  • cups salted butter softened
  • cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp orange oil or orange bakery emulsion
  • Zest of 1 fresh orange
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • tsp baking soda
  • tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp coarse salt
  • 12 oz milk or dark chocolate chopped
  • Flaky sea salt for topping
  • Chocolate orange slices for garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Mix in vanilla extract, orange oil, and orange zest.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  7. Fold in chopped chocolate gently.
  8. Scoop dough onto baking sheets, spacing cookies 2 inches apart.
  9. Sprinkle lightly with flaky sea salt.
  10. Bake for 12–15 minutes until edges are golden and centers are just set.
  11. Immediately press a chocolate orange slice into each cookie.
  12. Cool on baking sheet for 25 minutes before transferring to a rack.

Notes

Do not overmix the dough or overbake the cookies. Orange oil provides the most vibrant citrus flavor, but orange juice concentrate may be substituted if needed.
