Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in vanilla extract, orange oil, and orange zest.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Fold in chopped chocolate gently.
- Scoop dough onto baking sheets, spacing cookies 2 inches apart.
- Sprinkle lightly with flaky sea salt.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until edges are golden and centers are just set.
- Immediately press a chocolate orange slice into each cookie.
- Cool on baking sheet for 25 minutes before transferring to a rack.
Notes
Do not overmix the dough or overbake the cookies. Orange oil provides the most vibrant citrus flavor, but orange juice concentrate may be substituted if needed.
