Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup light brown sugar packed for accurate measurement
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil adds rich, nutty flavor to the glaze
  • 1/4 cup water Used as a base for the teriyaki glaze
  • 1 clove garlic minced, for aromatic depth in the sauce
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce Essential for the savory teriyaki flavor
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch slurried with water for thickening the sauce
  • 1/2 tsp ginger freshly grated preferred for more vibrant flavor
  • 1 tbsp oil vegetable or canola, for cooking
  • 1/2 tbsp water For creating the cornstarch slurry
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar Adds a subtle tang and balances the glaze
  • 4 filets salmon 6 oz each, skin-on or skinless per preference for baking

Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Whisk
  • Mixing Bowls

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). In a medium bowl, whisk together brown sugar, sesame oil, 1/4 cup water, minced garlic, soy sauce, ginger, rice wine vinegar, and 1 tbsp oil. This is your teriyaki glaze.
  2. In a small separate bowl, whisk 1/2 tbsp cornstarch with 1/2 tbsp water to create a slurry. Add this slurry to the teriyaki glaze and whisk until well combined.
  3. Place salmon filets in a baking dish. Pour about half of the teriyaki glaze over the salmon, ensuring each piece is coated. Reserve the remaining glaze for basting.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. During the last few minutes of baking, baste the salmon with the reserved glaze for a beautiful shine.
  5. Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes, such as steamed rice and vegetables. Enjoy your delicious Glazed Teriyaki Baked Salmon!

Notes

For an extra touch, garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving. This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed white rice and a side of stir-fried vegetables.
