Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp food coloring
  • 1 1/2 cups Valentine-themed sprinkles

Method
 

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar in a stand mixer.
  2. Add butter and mix until combined.
  3. Add vanilla extract and mix until dough forms.
  4. Divide dough in half.
  5. Add food coloring to one half and mix until evenly colored.
  6. Roll both dough portions between wax paper into rectangles.
  7. Chill dough sheets for 1 hour.
  8. Remove wax paper and brush uncolored dough lightly with water.
  9. Place colored dough on top and press gently.
  10. Trim edges and roll into a log.
  11. Roll dough log in sprinkles.
  12. Wrap and chill for at least 2 hours.
  13. Slice dough into 1/4-inch cookies.
  14. Bake at 350°F for 15–17 minutes.
  15. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Chilling the dough is essential for clean swirls. Use baking sprinkles to prevent color bleeding. Slice cookies with a sharp knife for best results.
