Ingredients
  

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Colored royal icing pastel shades
  • Sprinkles or edible decorations optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Scoop dough into balls, flatten slightly, and space 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool completely before decorating with royal icing and sprinkles.

Notes

Cool cookies fully before decorating. Chill dough for 15 minutes if cookies spread too much. Gel food coloring works best for icing.
