Ingredients

  • 1 pound large sea scallops dry-packed, if possible, for best browning and flavor
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for coating the scallops evenly
  • 1 tsp Old Bay Seasoning a classic seafood seasoning blend
  • 0.5 tsp salt adjust to your preference
  • 0.25 tsp pepper freshly ground black pepper is recommended
  • 0.25 cup butter melted for the garlic sauce
  • 2-3 cloves garlic cloves finely minced for maximum flavor
  • as needed wedges Lemon wedges for a bright, fresh finish
  • as needed g Fresh parsley finely chopped for a pop of color and freshness

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Medium Bowl
  • Paper Towels
  • Medium Skillet

Method

  1. Remove the side muscle and thoroughly pat the scallops dry with paper towels. This ensures proper browning and prevents steaming.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the olive oil with Old Bay Seasoning, salt, and pepper. Gently toss the scallops until they're evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
  3. Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to preheat for 2-3 minutes. This step is crucial for achieving that perfect golden exterior.
  4. Place the seasoned scallops in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don't touch each other. Work in batches if necessary to maintain proper spacing.
  5. Air fry the scallops for 6-8 minutes, carefully flipping them halfway through the cooking time. They should develop a beautiful golden color and become opaque.
  6. While the scallops cook, melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Transfer the cooked scallops to serving plates, drizzle with the hot garlic butter, and garnish with fresh parsley and lemon wedges.

Notes

Patting the scallops completely dry is the most important step for achieving a perfect sear and preventing them from steaming. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket.
