Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dark Brown Sugar Pack firmly for accurate measurement and a rich caramel flavor.
  • 1 cup Butter Use unsalted butter for better control over the saltiness, or salted if preferred.
  • 12 oz White Candy Melts High-quality candy melts or white chocolate chips work best for smooth spreading.
  • 1 sleeve Saltine Crackers Enough to cover the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan in a single layer, typically one sleeve.

Equipment

  • 9 by 13 inch Pan
  • Saucepan

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Line a 9 by 13" pan with foil.
  3. Place one layer of saltines in the pan and set it aside.
  4. Combine butter and brown sugar in a saucepan.
  5. Bring mixture to a rolling boil for 3 minutes while stirring.
  6. Pour mixture over the crackers and bake in the oven for 7 minutes.
  7. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle the candy melts over the hot toffee.
  8. As the candy melts, spread them evenly like icing. Optionally, add sprinkles or other decorative candies immediately.
  9. Refrigerate until completely cool and set, then break into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra festive touch, consider adding a few drops of food coloring to the melted white candy melts before spreading, or experiment with different types of chocolate like milk or dark chocolate.
