  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 240 ml light corn syrup
  • 1 packet Kool-Aid (any flavor)
  • 60 ml water
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract (optional) Add for extra flavor
  • 30 g powdered sugar (for dusting)

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper

Method

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, Kool-Aid, and water.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Once boiling, add the baking soda and stir well. The mixture will bubble up.
  5. Continue cooking the mixture for about 5-7 minutes, or until it reaches a temperature of 250°F (hard ball stage).
  6. Carefully remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract, if using.
  7. Pour the hot candy mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes until it’s safe to handle but still pliable.
  9. Once cooled enough, knead the mixture with greased hands until smooth and slightly elastic.
  10. Divide the candy into sections and roll each section into long ropes about 1/4 inch thick.
  11. Lightly dust the ropes with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
  12. Allow the candy ropes to cool completely before cutting them into desired lengths.
