Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Servings: 18 -24 cookies
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  •
  • 1-2 cups chocolate chips or your choice of mix-ins like caramel bits, nuts, etc.

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the oven rack in the middle.
  2. Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using a hand or stand mixer until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips (or other mix-ins) using a spatula.
  6. Portion the Dough: Scoop dough balls about 2 tablespoons in size, rolling them into smooth balls. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is still slightly soft. For a chewier cookie, remove them just before the edges fully set.
  8. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • You can freeze the dough for up to 3 months. When ready to bake, just place the frozen dough balls on a baking sheet and bake as directed.

  • Customize the flavor by adding crushed nuts, caramel bits, or even sprinkles on top before baking.
