- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition. Once all the sugar is incorporated, add the cotton candy flavoring, 2 tablespoons of heavy cream, and a pinch of salt.
- Increase to medium-high speed and beat for another 2–3 minutes until the frosting is light and airy. Add an additional tablespoon of cream if needed for desired consistency.
- For a classic cotton candy look, mix in a few drops of pink or blue food coloring until evenly tinted.
- Use immediately or store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Notes
This frosting is perfect for cupcakes, cakes, or even as a dip for fruit. For best results, use good quality flavoring extract.
