Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sourdough starter discard unfed
  • 1/2 cup Nutella

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the sourdough discard until evenly incorporated.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, dollop Nutella on top, and swirl with a knife.
  7. Add the remaining batter, swirl again with Nutella, and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Cool completely before slicing into squares.

Notes

For fudgy brownies, avoid overmixing and do not overbake. Allow brownies to cool fully for clean slices.
