Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf cinnamon swirl bread 16–20 ounces
  • 4 large eggs
  • 240 ml 1 cup milk
  • 15 ml 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 –5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 120 ml ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 30 g 2 tablespoons butter or neutral oil
  • Optional toppings: fresh berries sliced bananas, toasted pecans, powdered sugar, whipped cream, cream-cheese glaze

Method
 

  1. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth and let sit for 60 seconds.
  2. Cut cinnamon swirl bread into 1- to 1½-inch cubes.
  3. Dip bread cubes into custard for 30 seconds per side, then let excess drip off.
  4. Heat skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil.
  5. Cook soaked cubes in a single layer for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Work in batches, adding more butter as needed.
  7. Transfer to a warm plate and drizzle with warmed maple syrup.
  8. Add desired toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for best texture. Avoid over-soaking to prevent soggy bites. Keep cooked batches warm in a low oven while finishing the rest.
