Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • Wooden sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon blue or green food coloring
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips optional
  • Sprinkles or edible glitter for decorating

Method

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Wash the apples thoroughly, remove any wax, and dry completely.
  3. Insert wooden sticks firmly into the tops of the apples.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, corn syrup, and vanilla extract.
  5. Cook over medium heat without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F on a candy thermometer.
  6. Remove from heat and gently stir in the food coloring.
  7. Dip each apple into the candy mixture, rotating to coat evenly and allowing excess to drip off.
  8. Immediately add sprinkles or edible glitter while the coating is still wet.
  9. Place apples on parchment paper and allow to cool completely until hardened.

Notes

Do not stir the sugar mixture while cooking, and make sure apples are completely dry to ensure a smooth, glass-like candy coating.
