- Trim about 1/2 inch off the top of the onion and peel; place cut side down. Make 8 vertical cuts from the top almost to the root to form 'petals,' gently spreading them apart.
- In a shallow bowl combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In a second bowl whisk together eggs and milk.
- Place Panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Dredge the onion into the seasoned flour, shaking off excess, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat evenly with Panko breadcrumbs, ensuring petals are covered.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Brush or drizzle the oil over the onion and between the petals.
- Carefully transfer the onion to the air fryer basket, cut-side down, and cook for 10 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 5-8 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Remove the blooming onion from the air fryer and let rest for 2 minutes before serving.
