Ingredients

  • 1 medium apple apple, peeled and finely chopped
  • 28 g brown sugar
  • 0.25 tsp apple pie spice
  • 5 ml lemon juice
  • 16.3 oz large refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
  • 150 g sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 60 g butter, melted
  • 5 ml vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the finely chopped apple, brown sugar, apple pie spice, and lemon juice, then set aside.
  3. Separate the biscuits into two horizontal layers and flatten each biscuit half to 1/4-inch thickness.
  4. Fill each rolled biscuit half with 1 tablespoon of the apple filling, and bring the edges together to seal it into a ball.
  5. Place doughnuts in a single layer onto a greased air-fryer basket and spritz them with non-stick spray.
  6. Cook the apple bombs until golden brown and puffed, about five minutes.
  7. In a shallow dish, mix the sugar and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, stir together the melted butter and vanilla.
  8. While the bombs are still warm, toss them in the butter mixture, then roll them through the cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
  9. Serve them warm.

Notes

For an extra-thick sugar crust, double-dip the apple pie bombs. Coat them once, let them sit for a minute, then coat again.
