- 1 tablespoon sweet basil seeds (sabja seeds)
- 3–4 cups cold filtered water
- 2–3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2–3 tablespoons sugar or honey
- 1–2 tablespoons rose water (optional)
- Pinch of saffron (optional)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Rinse basil seeds and soak in ½ cup lukewarm water for 15-20 minutes until they form a gel-like coating.
- In a small saucepan, combine ½ cup water with sweetener. Heat and stir until dissolved, then let cool.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice, straining out pulp and seeds.
- In a large pitcher, mix the cooled syrup, lemon juice, and remaining water. Stir to combine.
- Strain the soaked seeds and add to the mixture. Stir well.
- Serve over ice in tall glasses. Stir before serving to evenly distribute seeds.
Notes
Use coconut water for added electrolytes. Always soak seeds fully for best texture. Adjust lemon and sweetness to your taste.
