Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- Melt butter over low heat and remove from heat before fully melted; stir to finish melting.
- Stir granulated and brown sugars into the melted butter until glossy; let cool for 2–3 minutes.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
- In another bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; avoid overmixing.
- Add chocolate chips or nuts if desired and spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool brownies on a wire rack for 15–20 minutes before slicing into squares.
Notes
For fudgy brownies, avoid overmixing and slightly underbake. Use Dutch-processed cocoa for deeper chocolate flavor. Cool completely before cutting for clean edges.
