Royal Icing
- 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 tablespoons meringue powder
- 4–6 tablespoons warm water
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Gel food coloring (pastels)
- Edible pearls or sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Divide dough into discs, wrap, and chill for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line baking sheets.
- Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut into shapes.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set.
- Cool completely before decorating.
- Prepare royal icing and decorate cookies as desired.
- Allow icing to dry fully before storing.
Notes
For best results, chill dough thoroughly and allow icing to dry overnight. Avoid decorating warm cookies to prevent icing melt.
