Homemade Salsa Recipe with Fresh Tomatoes

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 cups 1x

Description

This vibrant, easy homemade salsa recipe with fresh tomatoes comes together in just 10 minutes and delivers bold, refreshing flavor that far outshines anything store-bought. Perfect for chips, tacos, grilled meats, or healthy snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium vine-ripened tomatoes, halved
  • 1 small white or yellow onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 medium jalapeño, seeds removed and coarsely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Wash all produce thoroughly. Pat tomatoes dry and remove stem areas. Cut onion into large chunks.
  2. Coarsely chop jalapeño (remove seeds for mild salsa), and garlic cloves.
  3. Add ingredients to food processor in this order: tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapeño, garlic, lime juice, and salt.
  4. Pulse 8–12 times, checking consistency. For chunky salsa, pulse 6–8 times; for smoother salsa, pulse more.
  5. Taste and adjust salt or lime juice as needed.
  6. For best flavor, let salsa rest 15–30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Use Roma or plum tomatoes for a thicker salsa. Add bell peppers or mango for sweetness. Store in airtight containers and enjoy within 7–10 days. Perfect for topping tacos, eggs, grilled meats, or pairing with chips.
