Ingredients
Scale
- 3 small oranges or tangelos, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 3 cups water
- Granulated sugar for rolling (optional)
- Melted chocolate for dipping (optional)
- Flaky sea salt for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
- Slice oranges evenly into 1/4-inch rounds.
- Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and heat until sugar dissolves and mixture gently boils.
- Reduce heat to a simmer and add orange slices in a single layer.
- Simmer for 60 minutes, flipping slices every 15 minutes, until translucent.
- Remove slices and place on a wire rack over a baking sheet.
- Allow to air-dry at room temperature for 48 hours, flipping once halfway.
- Optionally roll dried slices in sugar, dip in melted chocolate, or sprinkle with sea salt.
- Let coatings set before storing or serving.
Notes
Use evenly sliced oranges for consistent texture and allow full drying time to prevent stickiness or spoilage.
