- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp food coloring
- 1 1/2 cups Valentine-themed sprinkles
Instructions
- Mix flour, baking powder, salt, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar in a stand mixer.
- Add butter and mix until combined.
- Add vanilla extract and mix until dough forms.
- Divide dough in half.
- Add food coloring to one half and mix until evenly colored.
- Roll both dough portions between wax paper into rectangles.
- Chill dough sheets for 1 hour.
- Remove wax paper and brush uncolored dough lightly with water.
- Place colored dough on top and press gently.
- Trim edges and roll into a log.
- Roll dough log in sprinkles.
- Wrap and chill for at least 2 hours.
- Slice dough into 1/4-inch cookies.
- Bake at 350°F for 15–17 minutes.
- Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Chilling the dough is essential for clean swirls. Use baking sprinkles to prevent color bleeding. Slice cookies with a sharp knife for best results.
