Description
A juicy, tender hamburger steak smothered in rich, savory gravy—an elevated comfort food classic that’s easier and better than a traditional burger.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 medium onion, finely minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Optional: 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
Instructions
- Mix ground beef with onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder until just combined.
- Form into four patties and chill for 10 minutes.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear patties 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- Sauté garlic in skillet drippings for 30 seconds, then whisk in flour to make a roux.
- Slowly add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce while whisking, bringing to a gentle simmer.
- Return patties to skillet and simmer 8–10 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or vegetables.
Notes
Avoid overmixing the meat to keep patties tender. Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor and moisture.
